Haern

From The Ankyrean Archives

The Hunter was created by Varian shortly after the birth of Aetolia, seeing a need for a Divine realm to tend the cycles of birth and death.

Haern is the aspect of Life at its purest. He is the passion to survive, the urgency of every sense buzzing as one combats for the right to exist. Whether experiencing the predator's exultation as it chases down its next meal, or the stark panic of the prey, He is both master of vitality and the Lord of Terror.

The Hunter is an elusive God, rarely appearing to mortals in His true form but preferring to interact through other agents, often observing or testing mortals indirectly. His symbols are as many and varied as life itself, but most common are a yellowed bone and a totem carved with a bear, raven and serpent.

Appearance

He is an Immortal, towering easily over any mortal. His features are well-defined, His jaw square-cut, and His skin is deeply tanned although it resonates with a green hue. Runic images of various animals cover His body, pulsing faintly as He moves. His form is muscular and powerful, yet slender enough to allow for swift and graceful movements. Short hair of a vibrant red covers His head, wildly unkempt. Power radiates from His pristine white eyes that lack an iris.

He is wearing:

Veil, Robe of The Hunt
Whisper, Bow of the Hunt
a tri-colored pendant
a circlet of thorns
a dragonskin quiver
an ornate silver-plated weaponbelt of bearskin

Shrine Descriptions

Major Shrine Descriptions

A triangular pile of bloodstained bones has been risen here, covered in sinuous thorny vines.

--
Dark earth has formed a slab upon which various animal bones and other remains have been stacked up to form a triangle. The piled-up heap is held in place by dark thorny vines, which run over and across the pile from the slab of earth. The bones are colored a mottled, parchment-like yellow with the occasional spot of ivory and white. Blood delivers an obvious note of dark red gushing from the pile as a sign of a recent offering or ritual.

Minor Shrine Descriptions

A large, blood-spattered totem has been erected here, formed of obsidian, ivory, and red-wood. Facing outwards and surrounding the totem are a large ivory bear, an obsidian raven, and a red-wood serpent.

--
Easily the height of a tall troll, the totem seems to be made of three different materials - brightly polished obsidian forms the base, slightly yellowed ivory the middle and the top is made from a brilliant red-wood, hundreds of bloody hand-prints cover the totem's surface. The three animals surrounding the totem have been carved from the same materials and each has been carefully positioned to look as though it is watching its surroundings.
