The Portals of the Vagabonds is a special area one for newbies to quickly get from one place to another and avoid getting completely lost.
The newbie helpers Hansel and Gretel can often be found here as well.
Usage
The portals are available only to newbies. By typing PORTALS, you will be transported to the Portals of the Vagabonds, by the benevolence of the Gods. From there, you can instantly access the major Cities of Sapience, as well as the newbie areas (HELP NEWBIE). There are signs all over the Portals of the Vagabonds; simply READ SIGN to find out where the various exits will take you.
If you are level 10 or less, you can use PORTALS as many times as you want. Upon reaching level 11, you will be given a quota of 20 more uses of PORTALS. When you reach level 21, you won't be able to use PORTALS any longer. Typing STAT will show you whether you have access to the PORTALS command and, if so, how many uses of it you have left.
