The Ankyrean Archives:North of Trees
From The Ankyrean Archives
Welcome to North of Trees, the community center where all AA members can get shit done.
What are the Ankyrean Archives?
The unofficial Wiki of Aetolia, the popular MUD by Iron Realms Entertainment. The site was created by Candlemas, who sought a refuge from the politically correct, "play nice" Aetolian communities that are all too prevalent. See the forums. Although we here at the Archives make it our duty to provide you, the reader, with extensive and comprehensive information regarding your favorite little, gothic text RPG, we are not afraid to tell it like it is. Luminaries are overpowered, and Daskalos has a tiny penis. The main goal of the Ankyrean Archives is to inform and entertain.
Users
Anyone with a web browser is welcome to participate. We take advantage of not being affiliated with Iron Realms to provide humorous and satirical misinformation on people, places, events, and often, the Divine themselves. Therefore, to keep you out of trouble with your friends and the higher-ups, we require that you do not use the name of any player character from Aetolia. The trend is to use the names of NPCs (mobiles) instead, such as Sethrin, Syvelium, or Irijali.
If you're interested and would like to create an account, head on over here. The gigantic text in the red box is probably important, but some of our more special would-be users somehow miss it.
Ways to Help
If you have free time and would like to help out, here's a list of things that can be done:
- Check the list of wanted articles. This is automatically generated when two or more pages contain links to a page that doesn't yet exist.
- Categorize articles. We have a list of existing categories and a list of uncategorized articles. To add an article to a category, click that page's edit link and at the bottom of the entry, type [[Category:Category Name]] (Where "Category Name" is the relevant approved, existing category) and click "Save Page". E-points if you mention what categories you added in the summary box.
- Expand on stubs. Stubs are articles that are far too short, and require more information. If you are feeling lazy, be sure to also mark short articles as stubs as well! You can do this by inserting {{Stub}} at the bottom of the article, above the categorization if applicable. Adding the Stub template will also automatically put that article in the Stub category. Note that creating just stubs (that is, a new page with maybe one line and {{Stub}} ) is not really any better than just leaving it blank.
- Make dry articles flavorful and humorous, or completely rewrite absolutely shitty ones.
- Add images to articles.
- Eliminate dead-end pages by adding links to other articles.
- Add stupid quotes to the Words of Wisdom box.

What Goes Here?
Any suggestions as to what we can put in here? --Candlemas 08:23, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think we could put our to-do list here, except we can have it all up with prettier tables and tables. (I'm looking at you, Nausikaa!) That way we can have a more comprehensive list of things that needs to be completed, first. --Certimene 09:32, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm on vacation for a week come tomorrow, but I'd love to help in anyway I can with art, and I don't know if you'd let a non-sysop do it, but I'd love to run the featured article section, as well. Keep it funny. Epicurus 08:10, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Featured Article
So... I'm thinking that if we really begin to beef up the writing quality and flesh out articles more (pictures), we could start to run a Featured Article, which would also help balance the right side of the main page's layout (sorry, design freak). I have already begun crafting a few bits of artwork in my spare time to use in the areas, but we need more! MORE! MORE! Ahem. Nausikaa.
- Our first featured article should be Albert, methinks, for obvious reasons. --Silvertooth 00:14, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. Nausikaa.

Hey nubz0rz!
Don't look like a noob, use my User Template for your signature! Thanks for preserving our eyes. --Nausikaa (talk · contr)
Style Guide
A thought, from bouncing around other wikis I am a member of: It may become necessary in the future to implement a Style Guide, which typically is a page containing an exhaustive series of specifications as to how specific pages are to look. I think that rigidly following such a guide would help give the wiki a finished look, despite our decidedly unprofessional approach to information gathering. :3 Nausikaa.
In-game history!
As part of the whole 'community wiki' thing of Ankyrean Archives, let's start seeing history of guilds/gods and such in their respective pages! So far, most of the guild and god pages have just been an updated copy/paste right out of Aetolia, which is just damn unoriginal. My idea is this - we for guild/god/area pages, we should have a 'timeline' where feasible - listing things that have happened over time in detail. In other words: We need more content, let's get more content, post your ideas. --Certimene (talk · contr) 08:40, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- I wonder if we even need a To-Do box on the front page. We do have a nice little community site here. Nausikaa.
Expansion
Once this wiki has grown significantly large enough, we should expand to include the other IRE muds; Achaea, Imperian, Lusternia and possibly Tears of Polaris. Any objections/support/thoughts on this? --Certimene 15:17, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- If the wiki is -incredibly- successful, maybe. I wouldn't suggest any such plans at the moment though. --Grak 15:20, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- Right, which is why I mentioned the "grown significantly large" thing. In any case, just a random idea. --Certimene 15:21, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- I don't even play Ach/Impy/Lusty. --Yudhishthira 11:50, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- You don't even matter. --Certimene 12:02, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Afflictions Category
Since we have things like Scripts and Skills already, what about an Afflictions category that can be accessed in the main categories on the sidebar? I would think it a pertinent subject to most. Nausikaa.
Terminology/Jargon category
What do you lot think about a new category for stuff like alt, PK Whore, snuggly and the like? They fit under humour, but IMO they need their own category. --Bearnath (talk · contr)
- Yeah, sounds nice. I would recommend that if you put them into a Humour subcategory, you remove them from the Humour category. I've noticed that other wikis do this for the purposes of removing clutter, and it's quite effective. Nausikaa.
omgwtf
Has someone been fiddling with {{userFemales}} and the like? They're lining up end to end on player pages and even my magical linebreak button can't fix it. D: --Bearnath (talk · contr) 00:54, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- WTF. I know what you're talking about. Earlier, it was centered on my screen, but now it displays just fine. No one's been messing with it, and the code's all in order. Can you tell me which pages you get the problem on? Nausikaa.
This has got to stop, or I might explode
We need to make some sort of template that we can just slap on the user page of these mouth-breathers who make an account just to make themselves a shoddily slapped-together, masturbatory character article. Nausikaa.
- Also, someone let me know if my signature is annoying. Nausikaa.
Derp
Do we want a Category:Guild or Category:Class for all the related articles, or am I getting obsessed with new categories? Bearnath | talk | contr
- Too many categories isn't a bad thing, as long as you keep them tidy, so they're just like articles in that sense. Personally, I prefer guilds over classes. They're easier to remember. I still stare blankly for five seconds after seeing "Zealot." Nausikaa.
Badges
Direct your stupid attention to Category:Badge Templates, where I've adopted the userbox convention that so many other wikis seem to waste time on enjoy. Look at my page and steal the code if you can't figure it out. I'm working on adding a few guild badges before I go to work.
THESE DO NOT GO ON PLAYER ARTICLES, MOTHERFUCKER.
Also, if you're worried about compromising your anonymity, don't slap any badges on that might give you away, genius. Nausikaa.
- Oh god, making these is too fun. You guys oughta whip up some. Make sure they follow the same general height and the exact width as the others. Don't want to end up with the same ugly business like a few of the Player category templates. Nausikaa.
- As I predicted, the badges have taken off like a fucking rocket, with Warhammer metawars and other nonsense galore. Who needs actual content when we can plaster shit all over our pages? Nausikaa.

Hotness
So, I slapped it up and forgot about it. Anyone like the new background image? Does it make the top hard to read? I want to slowly move quite a few elements to that grey-green color we've got goin' on, a la the incredibly hot Sapience template. Gimme feedback. Nausikaa.
Reanimation pages
I cleaned up a bunch of pages in Reanimation, but I don't have a reanimator or any idea how the skills work/what they're used for. It'd be great if someone could add to them for me! Bearnath | talk | contr
Categories
I think we need a Category:Roleplay. Yes? Bearnath | talk | contr
